Feature Friday – Alisha of Lishyloo

I’m a stay at home mom to 3 kiddos, Truman is 6, Harry is 3 and Tova is 18 months. I live in the Midwest so we have long winters inside for lots of treasure hunting.

My shop is mostly dedicated to baby and children’s vintage clothing, every now and then I see an amazing house-ware item that I have to include and of course I love vintage books!

What made you decide to open your store? Before deciding to stay home full time with the kids, I worked in indie book publishing and every week on Fridays I would stop at the thrift store as a reward for making it through the week. Once I had more time alone with my first born we were at the thrifts a lot and I started buying him vintage clothing. Things really got rolling when my second child was also a boy as I started to sell off all of the girl things I had been saving.

What has been your biggest accomplishment thus far? I don’t know if it’s an accomplishment or being in the right place at the right time but this past winter I scored a very large lot of dead stock Osh Kosh overalls and Polly Flinders dresses, I am still putting those items in the store!

Where do you find your inspiration to run your own business? My husband owns his own software development business. I have also been greatly inspired by the ladies at Modernkiddo.com and Jenny Mitchell of Frecklewonder.

What is your favorite Era of vintage? The 70s, always the 70s. If I could live in the Brady house and have their clothes and their hair I think I would be happy for life! Oh, and their glorious station wagon!

How do you set weekly goals for your business that translate into long-term goals?I have found that Etsy is really slow and steady. I have aspirations to move some of my items into a local antique shop and to go to more estate sales. I would like to find older pieces.

What’s your favorite item that is in your store? Right now it’s this matching pink dress with a coat! This is handmade and so incredible

What’s one helpful thing you have learned in opening and running your store? Measure measure measure! Vintage items vary so much in size and children as well so measuring your items is key!
